Dye in the rain

This evening, I wore a bright white dress, with my recently dyed red hair and hit the road. There was no sign of rain, only the promise of sunshine. Well, if i were you, i wouldnt take that ‘promise’ seriously because obviously I’m not a good judge of weather by just mere looking. Plus I’ve refused to use the help of weather forecasters, maybe because, I barely even remember they exist.
Back to my story, I had barely made it to my second bus stop when I heard rumbling. Hian! Wetin be that? Na rain wan fall so? I was never gonna make it. I was still miles away from the bus stop and even farther from home. What was I to do now as there was no shade in sight? Damn this rain! I cussed. My white dress and my dyed hair were in for a real party. The rain began to drizzle. I picked up pace, then a broke into a full race. I knew I wasn’t going to make it to the shade in time. But i ran all the same, hoping to get to the old deserted filling station that road users used as shade just in time before I got drenched. Well, I did get there alright. But not before I was half wet. Then I attempted to clean my face with my white handkerchief, that was my undoing. The handkerchief mopped my face quite alright, but I didn’t understand why it came off as red. Okay, just kidding. I knew why. But I wasn’t expecting it. How can my hair dye wash in the rain? Moreso, at a time i wore white. I never felt that embarrassed in my life. It felt like all the people who shared the shade were looking at me. To say I was embarrassed is to put it lightly sef. It was only going to be a matter of time before my white dress also got a fair share of the dye. If it hadn’t already from behind that is. I wasn’t going to show up for our reunion looking like this, I told myself. No be my own bad pass. I turned around and went home. My friends were disappointed that I cancelled on them last minute, but my roommate couldn’t contain her laughter. Henceforth, my resolve is to stay away from coloured hair and white clothess during rainy seasons, until I buy a car atleast. But for now, let me look for ways to get my white dress back because I really loved this dress.
