Survival 101

I honestly look back on some things i wrote a few years back and i marvel. I’m sure you can relate. Maybe not with writing o, maybe something else you had done or a project you carried out. Then you will begin to wonder if you had copied it from somewhere or your head was the resource? And you go: ”Wow….I’m amazed at my own intelligence”

I think I had exposure to life from a good age. I recently celebrated one of my favourite aunt’s birthday. After my mum, I learnt alot from her. The way she puts everyone in their place makes me giggle. Though i honestly hope not to be at the other end of her wrath most times. I tell you my people, she no dey take nonsense!

Being the least by age in the house at time, I was the one to face her and make requests for the rest. Y’all know that ageless stunt the older siblings pull na. I had to scratch my head and rehearse my words over and over before I approached the throne of her royal majesty. My brothren and sisthren, it wasn’t always easy, even though it was worth the trouble most times.

Interestingly too, she made me sit through advice sessions. One crucial advice she gave me was to know when to shrink back and when to match opponents. A lesson that has helped me deal with alot of oppositions in this my short yet eventful life.

You know what? I think we should all retake that advice with me. You can’t fight all battles. Concede defeat sometimes. Live to fight another day. It is not cowardice, it is called survival.
