There’s a man in my room

No. For real. There’s a man in my room. And he is working. I’m surprised he came as agreed.

So Sunday afternoon, I spoke with a craftsman who had promised to come fix some things that needed fixing in my room.
Oga abeg, na which time you go come do this work? I asked.
Tuesday morning he responded.
Noooo, I have to be in the office on Tuesday abeg.
Abeg tell your boss sae you go resume by 10am. I go come early like 7am and I go finish before that 10am sef.
Hmmm, you sure sae you go come early and you go fit finish by that time? No make me go take excuse for nothing o. And if you no finish by 10am I go lock you outside go my work.
No wahala, I gree.

Tuesday morning, ICE is still in bed. I thought to myself, no be all these craftsmen again? He’ll probably show up by 10am anyways. Brothren and sisthren, that was such a wrong judgment call on my part. The man showed up just in time as we agreed. In fact, I had to hurriedly clear space for him to work whilst he waited outside.

Well, you can’t really blame me. I’ve seen hell by the hands of craftsmen and artisans. They never keep to their words, most of them. But that doesn’t erase the fact that I judged this one wrongly.

Oftentimes, we find ourselves in similar situations. Either we’re judged wrongly or we judge others wrongly. That’s why I’m a big advocate of giving everyone a chance to prove themselves. And I always say, when you’re judged wrongly, it is your place to do the right thing in spite of the judgment. Otherwise, what difference does it make that you were judged wrongly and you decided to act wrongly too. Where is the sense in that?

Its not fair to generalize from the experience we get from few we have encountered. Everybody cannot be the same.
